October is a bad month for Indy Drivers

Sunday's are usually a day for sports in my house.  I drown in an orgy of Professional Football, European Soccer, Hockey and Baseball playoffs & smoke a ciggarette afterwards.  Hey, I'm a guy, that's what I do.

But yesterday was a sad day in sports.  Indy Car driver Dan Wheldon lost his life yesterday racing in the Las Vegas 300.  He was just 33.

The internet and TV was abuzz yesterday, with footage of the fiery 15 car pile-up that claimed Wheldon as a victim.  Now to give the Sports Network that covered the race credit, they did not show the on-board camera on Wheldon's car, saying that the footage was way too disturbing. I don't blame them for not showing it either, being on someones shoulder when they die is NOT on my bucket list.

But that hasn't stopped others from trying to get that footage...The Network who showed the race has been inundated with requests to see the on-board camera angle.  REALLY?  Have we really gotten to the point where we have to see every angle from every camera in any sporting event?!  A man, who had a wife a children died tragically, and all people wanna see is how.

Well, the only angles you're gonna get is the one that they showed on TV, and if you have a strong stomach, you can watch it right here.

Obviously a terrible tragedy and you could tell it was serious, not just because of the fire and destruction, but the way the announcers had trouble watching and describing it.

and this isn't the first time INDY has lost a driver on the last race of the season.  Maple Ridge BC racer Greg Moore died after his race car crashed back on Halloween 1999.   October is not a good month for race car drivers.

The drivers yesterday were told about Wheldon's death 2 hours after the crash and they propmtly held a meeting at the Las Vegas race track to prepare a tribute.  What they decided was to go around the track 5 times in honor of their fallen comrade.  It was a touching moment and the one I'll leave you with today.

RIP Dan Wheldon .
