Late blog today, and I've no amusing video clip or funny picture.

I want to talk about communication.  It might be a weird topic for a Radio Host, because I communicate every day with you, my listeners by telling you what goes on in our fair town (Like Fundraisers, Wine tastings or when you should get Flu Shots) and relay dumb criminal stories or amazing goings-on around this Blue Marble we call a planet.

I wanna talk communication to you tonight, because I realize how much just talking to someone can change our world.  Talking is the main thing that separates human beings from the animal kingdom, but it surprises me how little talking humans actually do to each other.  Blame the internet and texting and social networking sites if you want, but it all comes down to just sitting down and talking to your wife, or husband, or children, or co-workers if you really want to know what makes them tick.

Take the #occupymovement for example.  #occupy protesters want equality with the 1% of people who have the money but can you tell me their clear platform?  Probably not.  How about the Teachers Strike?  Do you think there would be job action if the BCTF and the Liberals actually sat down during the summer time and hashed out an agreement?  Probably not, but here we are 3 months into the school year and we're no closer to getting things accomplished.

And then, with a lack of communication comes the blame.  We, as humans, need to blame someone or something for our lack of communication.  It's "This Person didn't tell me I had to do this thing"  or "If I had only known little Jimmy was was being bullied at school because of his sexual orientation, maybe I could have prevented him from taking his own life.."

Well guess what folks...The blame lays on us.  Each and every one of us.  We had a remarkable technology that lets us send messages halfway around the world in nano-seconds but for some reason we've lost the ability to actually find out what's going on in people's lives.  That is messed up.  E-Mails, text messages, Facebook and Twitter don't help us connect with the world around us if we don't take the time to say "Hello" to a neighbour who isn't on our Friends List.

So please, take the time to discuss things with your spouse or co-workers.  Take the time to help your kids with their Math problem and I guarantee the world will start becoming the place we all want it to be.

All we have to do is initiate communication.

That is all.

I'll talk to you tomorrow.
